Nuchal Translucency
What you need to do to prepare for an Nuchal Translucency
- You must have a referral
- If you have had your blood test done please bring your results with you. We can refer you for this test after your ultrasound if required
- A full bladder is required for the test
- Empty your bladder 1 to 1 ½ hours prior to your appointment time
- Drink 1 litre of water after emptying your bladder
- Finish drinking your water at least 30 minutes prior to your appointment
- Do not empty your bladder whilst or after you finish drinking your water. If you are uncomfortable advise our staff upon arrival
What will happen when you have your examination
- You will lie on a couch for the majority of the test
- The specialist will apply a water based gel to your skin – this allows the transmission of the sound waves and facilitates movement of the ultrasound probe
- A written consent may need to be signed if you have a transvaginal ultrasound at the time of your examination
