- Bring any previous relevant imaging with you
What will happen when I have my MRI done
- Once you have completed your safety questionnaire that covers your specific medical and surgical history you will be required to sign a consent form
- You will then be asked to change into a gown
- You may require an intravenous contrast injection and we will ask you to sign a further consent form
- A specialised coil, a device specifically designed to read the MR signal, will be placed on or around the body part being scanned
- You will lie on the MRI table which will move into position prior to scanning
- A loud sound of varying intensity will be heard during the scan. You will be given earplugs before the scan begins to help reduce the noise
- The radiographic staff will speak with you throughout the scan through a two-way microphone system. You will also be given a buzzer
Your report and images
- A report will either be sent back to your referring doctor or you may be asked to return to collect them once they have been reported
- Digital copies of all studies are stored on our PACS (Picture Archiving & Communication System) for comparison with any future examinations
