Fees & Billing Information

Fees Information

St Vincent’s Clinic Medical Imaging & Nuclear Medicine fees are set at an amount that ensures the highest standard of care is provided. The fees charged by this practice are usually less than those calculated by the Australian Medical Association (AMA) as fair, reasonable and appropriate for the services provided.

Fees associated with inpatient medical imaging are payable by patients with a portion of the fees then being rebated by Medicare and private health funds. Unfortunately the full cost of providing imaging services is not covered by Medicare and the private health funds as they have not increased their rebates for Radiology for many years. As a result there are increased out-of-pocket expenses “gap payments” for patients. This amount will vary between health funds and individual cover.

As an outpatient (not in hospital) you will be provided, where possible, with an estimate of the fees prior to your examination. As an inpatient medical imaging may be performed while you are under anaesthetic or in intensive care, so you will not always be aware that the imaging requested by your doctor has occurred.

Pensioners and Health Care Card holders are bulk billed.

The Medicare Safety Net – The Medicare Safety Net provides families and individuals with financial assistance for out-of-pocket costs for out-of-hospital Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) services. Once you meet a Medicare Safety Net threshold, you may be eligible for additional Medicare benefits for out-of-hospital MBS services for the rest of the calendar year.
